Venezuela’s Chaos is A Stark Warning Against Electing Socialists

There’s a clever meme circulating social media with an image of a massive migrant caravan. The caption reads: “If socialism is so great, why isn’t this caravan headed to Venezuela?”

Everyday Americans know the answer to that question. But, apparently, the radicalized Democrats in Washington, D.C., flunked high school history class. Cuba remains an impoverished eyesore just off the U.S. mainland where people do not enjoy fundamental freedoms. In socialist Cuba, citizens cannot say what they think for fear of imprisonment or death. Gun ownership and the ability to defend yourself is a pipe dream.

Basic high school history taught us all about Joseph Stalin who led Russia into Communism/Socialism, and he reportedly executed nearly 800,000 in what was known as the “Great Purge.” Yet, Vermont Senator “Crazy” Bernie Sanders actually visited the former Soviet Union in 1988 and heaped praise on the oppressive nation’s accomplishments. Sanders was so impressed that you could see a theatrical performance for $1.50 that the genocide was worth the price of admission.

Radicals such as the Democrat firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) were too young to remember the Cold War. Keep in mind the Congresswoman from New York was born in 1989. And given her apparent lack of knowledge about American civics, it’s no wonder she lacks any insight into the crushing effects of socialism. If you told the upstart that Hitler was the leader of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party, one could only expect her patented bugged-eyed, deer-in-the-headlights blank stare.

Now comes Venezuela, once an example for Democrat extremists to point to as the model for socialism. Many skip the part where Hugo Chavez basically stole the oil and other infrastructure built by capitalist corporations and siphoned off the revenue that this Third World country was unable to create. With American and British oil in his pockets, Chavez moved forward with the Hitler-like United Socialist Party of Venezuela. It may seem like ancient history, but the fact of the matter is that it was only 12 years ago. Yes, the cautionary tale of Venezuela is that a socialist society completely collapsed in less than 12 years despite starting with lucrative oil infrastructure in place.

Today, Democrats refuse to acknowledge the true facts that socialism leads to extreme poverty, despair, loss of life, and military dictatorship. These are just some of the things Americans can expect if socialist Democrats get control of the government.

Thousands of Venezuelan citizens recently took to the streets in protest of Nicolás Maduro’s authoritarian rule. He won re-election by banning opposition party candidates from running against him. Opposition leaders rejected what they considered to be a rigged election and Maduro seized that boycott to subvert the presidential election in his favor.

“A party that has not participated today and has called for the boycott of the elections can’t participate anymore,” Maduro said. Apparently, democratic socialism is not so democratic after all.

Despite Maduro later being ousted by a constitutional process, he has enlisted the military to quell the imminent uprising of the people. In recent days, viral videos show military vehicles plowing through protestors, leaving bodies strewn in the streets. Other videos show Maduro indulging himself with a celebrity chef cooking his meals, sipping fine wines and smoking expensive cigars. The scene is indicative of socialist regimes throughout history. Perhaps Bernie Sanders could acknowledge that some people are far more equal than others under socialist rule.

Venezuela has been plagued with hyper-inflation so severe that its money is virtually worthless. After Chavez’ move to plunder the foreign-built oil sector and disburse wealth, Venezuela’s once robust agricultural industry went dormant. The country is now almost entirely dependent on imported food, medical supplies and other basic needs they can no longer afford.

Once the wealthiest nation in South America, Venezuela now resembles a medieval fiefdom in the midst of the plague. Radicalized Democrats, however, continue to hate their own country and spit on hard-working American success.

“A lot of the policies that we have put in place has kind of helped lead the devastation in Venezuela, and we have sort of set the stage for where we are arriving today,” Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar said.

Leave it to Democrats to try to blame Americans for the socialist crisis in Venezuela.
